Get Involved


Temple University Emergency Medical Services is looking for new members who are dedicated to helping others and bettering the community. As a member of TUEMS,  members gain both knowledge and hands-on experience while delivering high-quality care to Temple University's Main Campus students and staff, as well as the surrounding community of North Philadelphia. All Temple University students (Graduate and Undergraduate) of any discipline or major are welcome to join. If you are interested please fill out our online application (link below). No previous EMS experience is required.

To gain membership:

  1. Acquire Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification in the state of Pennsylvania
            a. Have an out of state certification? See the information below or talk to us about obtaining reciprocity.​

  2. Complete TUEMS Application and email it tuems@temple.edu or drop it off at the TUEMS headquarters, located at 1101 W. Montgomery Ave. (the police station across the street from the View). 

  3. Complete online trainings and necessary material, including immunization records, as specified in the TUEMS Membership Packet.

  4. Attend an initial interview. 

To become an active member, eligible to volunteer as an EMT you must:​​​​

  1. Successfully complete a modified International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) EMS Cyclist Course.

  2. Complete new member orientation.​

  3. Complete the precepting (training) process.

  4. Maintain all necessary certifications and immunizations. 

To maintain membership: 

  1. Maintain a current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification in the State of Pennsylvania and a Health-Care provider CPR certification.

  2. Work with the organization at least 16-hours a month. 

  3. Maintain all necessary certifications and immunizations. 

  4. Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.

PA EMS Reciprocity Forms

If you are not currently certified in the state of Pennsylvania but hold a certification in another state, please fill out this paperwork and submit it to the Pennsylvania Bureau of EMS for review. You must have a current Pennsylvania EMS certification before you apply for membership within TUEMS.
